AmeriVault Backup PDF Print E-mail

We know how hard it is to evaluate a data backup vendor. The features vary widely from company to company, the vocabulary is different from one vendor to the next, and the technical language can be so confusing that you simply give up in frustration and end up making a decision that may not be right for your business. Worse yet, you don't choose a data backup vendor at all, leaving yourself vulnerable to a data disaster that your business may never recover from.

We've invested a lot of time researching the options, and we've provided you with charts on this website where you can find information on all the features that are available from the major data backup vendors. (See Compare Backup Vendors and Compare Business Continuity)

But we'd like to simplify things for you just a little bit further. Over the coming weeks we'll be reviewing the leading vendors based on three essential service areas - data backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity.

For our first review, we'll take a look at AmeriVault.

About AmeriVault: A recognized leader in remote online data backup and managed data protection services, whose solutions include online data backup, disk-based recovery, and high-availability.

Data Backup: Yes. AmeriVault provides online data backup to dual offsite facilities.

Pros:
Data is secure in remote facilities.

Provides 30-day and yearly archives of your data.
Cons:
Your staff must manage the data backup process by selecting which files and drives to include. The vendor doesn't handle this for you.

Does not offer 7-year archiving.

Disaster Recovery: Yes. AmeriVault provides the ability to recover your data in the event of a data loss.

Pros:
Maintains an image of your entire server, including operating system and applications, in an active failover server environment (virtualization) at their data center.
Cons:
Does not offer an onsite virtual environment.

There isn't a full copy of your data onsite. If you have a significant data loss, your data will have to be physically transported from one of the vendor's data centers.

Business Continuity: Offsite only. AmeriVault provides business continuity remotely at their data center.

Pros:
Offsite failover server, although this can be an expensive option.
Cons:
No onsite failover server, which would be a less expensive option. For many businesses, management must deal with the efficient allocation of scarce resources. If your budget is limited, then the business is best served by addressing the most likely risk-management event. Offsite failover is far less likely to be necessary.
